Zack Patterson

Hi, my name is Zack and I like to make images move. It all started with making clay stop-motion videos with my parent's camera when I was young. I quickly fell in love with the process of creating things and as I grew older, I learned new mediums to express my creativity. I grew from Macromedia fireworks to Adobe Photoshop and illustrator. Expanded from Premiere to After Effects and Cinema 4D. After studying Motion Graphic Design in College, I found that I really excelled at designing motion.

I can't tell you how much I love buttery smooth motion! Transitions that make you wonder, and animation that gives any object (even a simple cube) character. I've mastered After Effects over the years, but C4D has been the icing on the cake when it comes to making compelling motion graphics.

When I'm not animating, I'm designing. Whether it's sketching out an idea, or setting some type in illustrator. My day to day life comes down to creativity.

My Skills

    2D Motion

    The heart of animation is 2D. I started animating silly GIFs in flash when I was young, but I quickly saught a more robust software solution. That's when I came across After Effects. I fell in love with the hirarchy of comps and layers (when they're well organized). My ability to create caught up to my ideas, and I created some truely top notch work, but one thing thing I faught was the 2.5D space I was moving content around.

    3D Motion

    2.5D is great, but it ain't no 3D and will never be. This is when I discovered the power of Cinema 4D and all the amazing things it can do. From animating abstract sweepNURBs to making beautiful compositions with polygons. C4D is a truely amazing software. I started with utilizing the 3D space to animate, but I quickly became facinated with rendering. This is when I stumbled upon the magic of Vray. Vray turned my plain sketchNtoon renders into beautiful photo real renders. This is when my design eye started to take texture into consideration when concepting ideas.

    Graphic Design

    My skill goes beyond motion. Whether you're looking for some web banner ads or a well-designed restaurant menu, I have an eye for design that can bring a fresh look on any job. I studied the fundamentals of design in school, and that knowledge has carried over into every aspect of my life.

    Live Visuals

    Music is great, but the real winner is an imersive audio / visual experience. That's why I work with great musicians to provide them with unique visuals that are all custom made by me and then mixed and projected live at their shows.
